WEST VIRGINIA DUI SAFETY
AND TREATMENT PROGRAM
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The West Virginia DUI Safety and Treatment Program is offered at Healthy Minds — Clarksburg in conjunction with the West Virginia Bureau for Behavioral Health and Health Facilities Division on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles. The program consists of education, intervention, and treatment components.
The purpose of the DUI Safety and Treatment Program is to protect the public and promote safety by reducing the number of repeat DUI offenses by drivers who have successfully completed the program and by providing drivers an opportunity to address problems related to the misuse of alcohol and/or other substances.
It is a mandatory program for license reinstatement after receiving a DUI in West Virginia. It consists of at least 18 hours of evidence-based, DUI educational instruction and an evaluation of the driver’s need for further services following conviction for DUI. Multiple DUI convictions, a higher-than-average BAC, and/or positive or at-risk screening during
the evaluation demonstrates the need for more intensive substance use and/or mental health services.
