WHO WE ARE

WVU Medicine physiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation and treat patients with orthopaedic or neurological issues that affect movement of the body. Your physiatrist will help manage any medical issues you may experience throughout your course of physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy. Our goal is to help you restore function and resume daily activities from a disability, disease, disorder, or injury you’re facing.

We work with your physical, occupational, and speech therapists to coordinate care, monitor progress, and make any adjustments to your treatment plan as needed.

PM&R Residency Program

A residency program is more than just a curriculum and a set of rotations; it is a community. The quality of the training environment, the dedication of the faculty, and the camaraderie among the residents are essential components of a successful and fulfilling residency experience. We understand that applicants are choosing not just a hospital, but a home for the next four years. We are proud to foster a supportive, collegial, and welcoming community at WVU and in the vibrant city of Morgantown. This focus on the human element is a key differentiator for top programs, which recognize that a happy and well-supported resident is a better learner and a more compassionate physician.

Our ACGME-accredited program develops compassionate, capable rehabilitation physicians through:

  • Diverse clinical rotations (inpatient, outpatient, pediatrics, neurology, orthopedics)
  • Weekly lectures, journal clubs, and case reviews
  • Research opportunities with mentorship
  • Strong community engagement and advocacy work

We emphasize mentorship, leadership, and career development with 360-degree feedback and networking support.
