About our program
At the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, our Recovery Therapy services offer innovative, noninvasive treatments to help patients heal, recharge, and feel their best.
Float Therapy creates a calming, weightless environment where your body can relax and your mind can reset. By removing external distractions and allowing you to float effortlessly in a saltwater tank, this therapy can reduce pain, lower blood pressure, improve sleep, and help relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Photobiomodulation, also known as red light therapy, uses red and near-infrared light to energize cells, promote healing, and reduce inflammation. It’s a drug-free option for managing pain, improving performance, and speeding up recovery from injuries or physical stress.
Together, these therapies support physical recovery and mental wellness—helping you feel restored from the inside out.
ABOUT RECOVERY THERAPY
What Is Float Therapy?
Also known as sensory deprivation therapy, float therapy involves lying in a float tank filled with warm water and high concentrations of Epsom salts. This creates a completely buoyant environment that allows you to float effortlessly — reducing stress on your body and mind.
Benefits of float therapy:
-
Reduces chronic pain
-
Lowers stress, depression, and anxiety
-
Improves sleep quality
-
Decreases blood pressure
How It Works
The therapy is based on sensory deprivation, minimizing external stimulation (light, sound, gravity) to allow the brain to enter a deep state of relaxation and healing.
What Is Red Light Therapy?
Photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as red light therapy, uses visible red and near-infrared light to stimulate healing and restore function in injured or stressed cells.
At the RNI, we offer whole-body PBM using the NovoTHOR Light Pod — a cutting-edge, full-body therapy device that enhances cellular energy, reduces inflammation, and promotes muscle recovery and pain relief.
Benefits of red light therapy:
-
Speeds tissue and muscle recovery
-
Reduces inflammation and oxidative stress
-
Enhances physical performance
-
Supports chronic pain management
How It Works
Red light stimulates the mitochondria (the cell’s powerhouse), helping to restore energy production and promote natural healing. It’s a safe, non-invasive therapy with no harmful side effects or downtime.
